Green Music Special

Starting this weekend, I’ll be running a Green Music Special.

That’s not Irish music or annoying nu-punk, but ways to be greener while cultivating a musical interest.

Front and center will be several posts about Norwegian music festival Øyafestivalen and their environmental commitment.

Festivals in general can potentially generate large amounts of garbage, waste lots of energy and pollute a substantial amount – over a short period of time.

Choosing an environmentally conscious and proactive event over others will therefore have a definite impact on the size of your personal ecological footprint.

As Øyafestivalen quickly multiplied its size during its first years – it is currently among the largest festivals in Norway – organizers set their mind to minimizing their festival’s environmental impact. In the coming Green Music Special, I’ll take a closer look at some of their efforts to achieve this.
